Leading the way in sustainability
Our customers, suppliers and the communities in which we operate are asking us to lead the transition to a low carbon, circular economy. And our ambitious Now & Next Sustainability targets rely on us all taking responsibility for the impact we have on our environment.
Whether you’re designing circular ready packaging, working towards Net Zero, finding new ways to use energy and water more efficiently or talking to our customers or suppliers about their sustainability goals, we all have a role to play.
Our finalists have shown that by placing sustainability front of mind, we can be the driving force of our own and our customers’ sustainability agendas, whilst also contributing significant value to the business.

Xavier Carreras, Carlos Alonso and Felipe Lopez
Engineering Technician, Maintenance & Engineering Manager, Quality Assurance Manager
Penedés, Spain, Packaging South
Due to the rising risk of water stress in the Cataluña region of Spain – where our Penedes site is based – Xavier, Carlos and Felipe were faced with the difficult challenge of reducing the site’s water consumption.
Water forms a key part of our operations, and with this new government requirement, it posed a huge risk to both our business and the environment.
Through their commitment to sustainability, the team designed a new water recirculation system to reuse the water from the Wastewater Treatment Plant, drastically improving the site’s water consumption and reducing the amount of water waste produced by the site.
Their ingenious solution to this major sustainability issue has proven a huge success and perfectly demonstrates our ethos that acting sustainably can bring incredible benefits to our business and our planet.
FRET21 Team
François Teigne, Bertrand Boulai, Frédéric Denais, Bruno Busser, Jordan Quillerou & Mickaël Musset
France, Packaging South
Carbon reduction is an important aspect of our Now & Next Sustainability Strategy and the team has spearheaded our efforts by committing to the FRET21 approach – a COP 21 programme introduced by the French government to help companies reduce the environmental impact of transporting their products.
The French West Cluster Supply Chain team, covering our sites in Bretagne, Atlantique, Durtal and Cognac, joined the FRET21 programme in May 2023 and have since worked tirelessly to develop a detailed action plan to reduce emissions. Through using alternative fuels, optimising routes and loads, relocating depots and production, and working with certified carriers, they have significantly reduced the carbon emissions from their operations and their supply chain, whilst also creating huge cost savings for the business.
The team have demonstrated exactly what it means to lead the way in sustainability and have accelerated our transition to low-carbon, circular economy.
