Action In The Pressing Unit To Improve Energy Efficiency

We've been a beneficiary of the aid programme for energy efficiency actions in SMEs and large companies in the industrial sector in Aragon, regulated in Royal Decree 263/2019, of 12 April.

In the aforementioned project, which represents an investment of 3,294,058.47 €, work has been carried out in March 2024 on the press section, replacing the current large diameter press rolls (LNP) with Shoe Press.

As the paper sheet comes out of the press section drier, less water needs to evaporate in the drying section. Therefore, less steam is needed to achieve the same final dryness. This technological improvement contributes to significant energy savings, estimated at 1,358.73 tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) per year, and to the reduction of CO2 emissions, reinforcing DS SMITH SPAIN, S.A.'s commitment to sustainability and the reduction of its carbon footprint.

Thanks to this action, the company advances in its corporate sustainability strategy "Now & Next", contributing to the objectives of environmental improvement, reduction of energy consumption and energy efficiency promoted at regional and national level, in line with European objectives.
