aniMaux, a captivating exhibition by Servan LEGOFF and DS Smith

Sustainable development is a challenge in today's society and one of our key priorities.

When we launched our Now & Next Sustainability Strategy in 2020 we set ambitious near and long-term targets that confirmed our commitment to the Circular Economy and our Purpose of Redefining Packaging for a Changing World.

We see a huge opportunity to put new ways of thinking into action across our focus areas: Circularity, Carbon, People & Communities, and Nature. All four areas combined open the gateway to transition to a low carbon, circular economy. To provide the best platform for this ambition, we set specific targets for each of our focus areas. For example, we’re already protecting nature, improving biodiversity and managing water responsibly. In the future we will continue this work, increasing our focus on measuring and improving biodiversity in our own forests and investigating new science-based approaches for setting targets for nature.

Why is this important? Biodiversity is declining increasingly fast. Therefore, it has never been more important to take action to preserve the natural environment that all life on Earth depends on. As the circular economy is regenerative by design, we are keeping resources in use for longer and  ensuring processes to extract resources leave room for nature to regenerate.

We’re sourcing responsibly, managing our forests and operations sustainably, as well as running biodiversity programmes at each of our paper mills and working in partnership with our communities to collectively reduce the impact on nature and encourage biodiversity to thrive. Raising awareness becomes the core task of everyone to energise the community spirit as every small action has an impact.

This is the case of Servan Legoff, an employee of DS Smith Packaging in France and an inspiring artist. Her initiative is a captivating art exhibition called "aniMAUX". Together with our partner GoodPlanet Foundation, we’re supporting Servan to share her art with the world and raise awareness about declining biodiversity. The Good Planet Foundation is a public interest foundation, which aims to make ecology and humanism a central issue in order to encourage people to take concrete action for the Earth and its inhabitants.

This work of art honours the animal and conveys a powerful message about the role we play in the disappearance of biodiversity.

The aniMAUX exhibition is open to all and will take place on 7th & 8th of October 2023 in Paris at the GoodPlanet Foundation. It is designed to highlight the impact of mankind on nature.

At the heart of the exhibition is a profound link between animals and the human footprint. The works of art reveal the disappearance and struggle of species in their natural environment: air, sea and land. To set the scene and provide the best visual experience for this exhibition, we are producing corrugated cardboard scenery to support the scenography at the exhibition.

Thank you to DS Smith Packaging France for allowing me to express myself artistically on a common value: the Environment. Because there are several ways to express and show your commitment.
