Milestones

1852
The foundations of the paper mill were laid. Twelve types of paper were manufactured, including writing and printing paper, coloured paper, cigarette and wrapping paper.
1980
Capacity increased for the production of corrugated board to 40,000 tonnes/year, using wastepaper as the main raw material.
2001
Capacity increased for the production of corrugated board to 80,000 tonnes/year.
2002
The company is renamed S.C. Ecopaper S.A.
2018
The company is acquired by DS Smith.

2018
Paper Machine 1 installed.
2020
Paper Machine 1 upgraded, increasing speed and efficiency.
2020
Integrated quality management standards achieved, including ISO9001, ISO45001 and ISO50001.
2020
Rental AD reactor start up, reducing environmental risks.
2022
Two anaerobic reactors installed in WWTP, allowing us to increase our production capacity.

Schools in Zărnești learn through the DS Smith environmental education programme

DS Smith has continued its environmental education project with schools in Zărnești in partnership with the Brașov County School Inspectorate. The educational project, launched last year, aims to familiarise school pupils with concepts such as recycling, environmental protection, and the importance of a circular economy.
