Palletisation: a key element in logistics

The aim of palletisation is to create a single unit that is easier to handle, store and transport, optimising the use of resources and process efficiency

Increasingly, the transport of goods and logistics are under increasing pressure both in terms of the speed of delivery and the fact that the goods delivered reach their destination in perfect condition.

For this reason, these companies continue to incorporate elements and processes that allow them to optimise the management of their resources and the time dedicated to each of the operations.

One of these resources is palletisation. The use of pallets is widespread today and is used in various sectors and for a wide variety of goods ranging from heavy and bulky products to smaller and lighter, but numerous, products.

In any case, palletising is the action of grouping a set of goods on a pallet or pallet with the aim of creating a single unit that is easier to handle, store and transport, optimising the use of resources and the efficiency of the processes between the parts that make up the supply chain.

In this way, the aim is to avoid movement between the smaller elements that make up the palletised load and which can cause it to fall, producing damage to the product or even to the people in charge of handling the load.

Advantages of palletisation in logistics

Depending on the type and characteristics of the pallet, it will allow a greater or lesser reduction in the costs of the goods distribution systems. In this sense, some of the advantages of palletisation in logistics can be summarised as follows

  1. Improved transport of goods
  2. Increases safety both in transport and in the handling of goods as it allows the use of forklifts and facilitates loading and unloading
  3. Facilitates monitoring and faster review of inventories
  4. Improves the protection of personnel involved in cargo handling
  5. Allows for better optimisation of storage space
  6. Facilitates automation
  7. Saves time and handling costs

As we have already said, palletisation is a technique that is increasingly being incorporated into companies and is already a very useful tool that allows the time, resources and effort of the people in charge of this process to be reduced, while at the same time increasing the company's productivity.
