Six things you should know about industrial packaging
At DS Smith Tecnicarton we are especialized in industrial packaging. So we have prepared a series of recommendations that a logistics manager should know when launching a project
1. Custom packaging demand for your products. Each piece or product is different so it is necessary for a quality supplier of industrial packaging to provide customized packaging adapted to the needs of each customer. It is not the same to carry an automobile dashboard, as a rearview mirror. And it is not the same a packaging that has to support thousands of kilometers in truck or boat, than a packaging for internal use in the industry. Each element must be studied and analyzed to find in optimal packaging.
2.- Value multi-material projects. If you have to transport delicate pieces you should consider the possibility of incorporating pieces of foam that damped blows. If your packaging is meant to classify parts for an industry, you may need plastic spacers that allow multiple compartments. And think whether, because of the type of industry, you need standard measures or also have to make a custom packaging.
3.- Make yourself heard. When a company needs industrial packaging it should feel heard. You should be able to clarify your technical specifications and you should feel that your interlocutor understands your needs. For this, it is necessary that, who advises to him, is a specialist in industrial packaging and that knows the needs of its sector, as well as the necessities in the transport of its products. It is important to have a valid interlocutor that correctly transmits the needs of the company.
4.- Look for projects that incorporate improvements to current products. Improvements in logistics, costs and storage. Always some innovation that allows to optimize costs and reduce it.
5.- Different sectors need different solutions. It is not the same to develop packaging for the automotive sector, or for the sector of wind generators, or to transport fruits and vegetables. It is important to have a team of engineers who know each sector.
6.- The industrial packaging destined to protect goods in transit must be resistant and stackable in order to optimize the space and to protect correctly the packed product.
