20 students visited the De Hoop paper mill in the Netherlands

On Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th of August, twenty Bachelor students visited the DS Smith De Hoop paper mill to get an introduction into the paper industry.

The students are following a talent program of ISPT, on top of their normal studies. After receiving a warm welcome and a short company presentation, the group proceeded to a mill tour. Part of the program was to work on 3 assignments, related to the paper process:

  • Entrance control of raw material
  • The effect of paper chemistry
  • Process control, analysis of basis weight and moisture profiles

For these assignments the group was split into 3, each sub-group worked on one subject during Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday afternoon they presented their findings on the subjects. It was remarkable that these students went so deep into the subjects in such a short time-frame: real talents!

Students visiting De Hoop MillAt the end of the session each group had to come up with a quote, reflecting their experience of these two days. The winning quote was: "Think out of the cardboard box".

The students reacted very positively on the program and will promote working in paper making as a challenging modern process industry.

It was a real pleasure for the DS Smith paper mill to host this group of young talents.
