Sustainability Update 2017
After our award-winning Sustainability Review 2016 we knew it was important to keep our stakeholders informed on our progress and bridge the gap between our 2016 and 2017 edition - which is due to be published this summer.
We are happy to announce the publication of our Sustainability Update 2017. Highlights include installation of heat recovery systems, increased completion rates of SEDEX self-evaluations from 34% to 74% and ensuring our zero accident culture is embedded throughout all divisions and all regions as exemplified by our Rapak™ Asia Pacific site achieving 11 years with no Lost Time Accidents.
In this update we share just some of the work underway across the business, focusing on the priority issues identified in our most recent materiality analysis.
— Miles Roberts, CEO DS Smith Plc.
The update is available 13 languages, making it accessible to our customers, investors, insurers, NGOs, suppliers, employees and other stakeholders across Europe. It is important to DS Smith that we make this update widely available because our operations have both direct and indirect impacts and it is vital that we communicate on those impacts transparently. Those impacts are upstream through our sourcing activities and downstream through the ways our customers use and dispose of our products.
Using case studies, we’ve tried to bring to life this progress.
In many cases, this progress not only ensures that DS Smith operates ever more sustainably, but can help to make our customers more sustainable too.
“Each and every day, the activities of all our colleagues are directed towards delighting our customers, providing a safe and productive work environment for employees and ultimately, creating value for our stakeholders,” concluded Roberts.
